Picnic, Anyone?

Strawberry Mini Cupcakes Monday, May 25th marks one more day closer to school ending, summer beginning, and a day for us all to remember those who have served in our armed forces. One local organization and Bittersweet Community Partner, National Military Families Association does this all year 'round. NMFA is the only national, non-profit organization solely devoted to the interest of active duty, reserve, survivor and retiree families of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration

To help make a difference for military families

Traditionally, we Americans celebrate with backyard potlucks, barbecues, picnics, and parades. Rum with a Punch

The 5th Annual Rum Punch Challenge was held by Gadsby's Tavern Museum Saturday, April 4th. We took the challenge head on along with a few others and Bittersweet came out on top! After winning the blue ribbon in 2007 and taking second in 2008 - we reclaim our first place title with our Apple Brown Betty Punch.

It was a close call with runner-up PX who offered up a mysteriously refreshing concoction themselves (it was smokin'!) but when all was said and done our Apple Brown Betty captured the voters' palates. Super sales rep and marketing guru Lena Teveris accepted our 2009 Rum Punch Blue Ribbon and worked Bittersweet's table along with Jeffrey (it's not a party without deviled eggs) Allen and friends. Many attendees referred to it as "liquid dessert" and came back for several more "tastings" (even after the unexpected fire drill which emptied the building).

Mix our Award Winning Apple Brown Betty Punch and give it a whirl at home or for your next function - great served cold or hot!

Answering those burning questions frequently asked

Why do Bittersweets' cupcakes suddenly have liners?

Glad you noticed! We have held out on the traditional cupcake liners for the past twenty some odd years solely because we felt it took away from the actual cupcake - but now in 2009, we have decided to surrender to the liner and see if it makes our cupcakes even better!

Liners really provide four positives to cupcakes - 1) they create easy removal of the cupcake from the tin after baking, 2) keep the cupcake moister, 3) reduce the cleaning of the pan after baking, and 4) are considered a more sanitary option when cupcakes are being passed from hand to hand. We have no problem popping those cakes out or putting some elbow grease into cleaning - but if the liners help keep our delicious moist cake moister and put those "germaphobes" at ease - Bittersweet is all for it!
