Oh, How We Have Grown!Twenty-five years ago, a small gourmet-to-go opened on North Alfred Street in Old Town Alexandria. The neighborhood was full of empty buildings, but three ladies -- June, Chris and Doris -- thought it would be fun to open a business that served simple good food. In 1986, they took a chance on hiring a young man by the name of Jody Manor as a cook, though he really had no professional cooking experience. About that time Angel Brizuela showed up at the back door looking for a job. Needing a dishwasher, he was hired immediately! Both Jody and Angel and many many others worked hard for years learning and growing in the tiny gourmet to-go shop. In 1990, the original owners decided to sell the business, and Jody saw opportunity as well as the potential...so in true Jody fashion, he bought the company.
