Songs of Freedom at Gunston Hall

Planned for the entire family, this program features performances of spiritual music by the Shiloh Baptist Church Choir of Mason Neck and Alfred Street Baptist Church Male Chorus of Alexandria. Throughout the afternoon, mansion tours focus upon James, Penny, Nell, Dick, and other slaves who worked about George Mason’s house; Slavery to Freedom plantation tours for children and for adults take place on the property at 1:30 and 4:00pm. Hearth cooks demonstrate African-American culinary traditions while children are invited to help with typical plantation chores and to make beaded jewelry.
