Culinary
Vacation:June 30, 2005
This is going to sound very food-obsessed...but I plan my
vacations on what I’d like to eat. How many of us
do this? Ok, here’s a better question…how many
of us do this and are willing to admit it? This trend started
in my family when my mother planned a trip to the 1982
World’s
Fair in Knoxville, TN. She revolved the entire trip around
how many things we could taste in the shortest amount of
time. If this sounds normal, we’re part of the same
club. And let’s be honest. Long after the sightseeing
has been forgotten and the power points of our photos have
become boring, the one thing we all seem to remember is
what we ate. I took a cruise to Bermuda many years ago
and the
ship’s midnight buffet still stand out as the highlight
of the trip. Who could forget lobster as big as my head
staring back at me from a platter of frosty kale garnish?
Oh yeah,
the island was nice, too. When I go to New York City to
visit my relatives my first stop is Gray’s Papaya
for one of the best hot dogs on the planet. As soon as
the train
passes through New Jersey I salivate at the thought of
the crispy snap of that kosher-style dog slathered with
deli
mustard. I’m planning a trip to New Orleans in 2006
just to taste authentic gumbo and beignets. I might make
time to visit an old building or take a tour but only after
my post-lunch nap. Do you have a memorable culinary vacation
that you’d like to share with me? Email your stories(1500
words or less, please) to theresa@bittercatering.com by

Happy travels….big eats!
Update from Bittersweet Team in Sri Lanka!
Our leader, Jody
Manor arrived in Batticaloa on Tuesday, August 2 to begin
building homes for people in tsunami-affected
areas. Jody remarked about the obvious heat but is very
determined in the task of assisting the rest of the crew in
providing
some relief Sri Lanka’s devastated citizens. “Sri
Lanka is an area, rich with different cultures and faiths.” These
people share a common goal…to flourish in the midst
of disaster. Jody will be checking in again soon. We can’t
wait to hear more about his adventure!
